My Personal Journey
by Monique C. Bilodeau, RMT

Specializing in CranioSacral, Neuromeningeal/Visceral Manipulation, Lymphatic/Lymphatic Brain Drainage

My vocation as a practitioner got its beginning back in 1996.  It was then that I was diagnosed with a very severe case of idiopathic scoliosis, and was told that surgery was my only option.  The dangers of the surgery itself, along with potential long term health problems, prompted my family to look into health care for me without surgery.    It was this that was the catalyst for a long journey in discovering what health and wellness was all about.   From being medically tested at 15 as being biologically 87 years old, to wearing a body brace for over 4 years, from seeing doctor after doctor and therapist after therapist, to trying countless conventional and complimentary modalities of health care, I overcame my health challenges, and now, instead of being the patient, I am now the practitioner, offering a highly specialized therapy to compliment a health and wellness lifestyle for people of all ages.

Beginning my studies in 2001, I initially set myself for chiropractic schooling, which later led me to the preparation for osteopathic, naturopathic, or medical schooling.  Although I maintained an average of a 3.9 on a 4.0 scale in university, a doctorate was not for me, and thus I began training for various effective and scientifically profound manual therapies.  Now holding over 25 health-related certifications, I practice as a multi-disciplinary health practitioner, specializing in Advanced CranioSacral Therapy, and I periodically teach a specialized therapeutic modality at an Edmonton college; my personal experience, extensive training, and public relations skills have proven to be of great asset to each person I meet and work with. My colleagues thus far have been a wide range of health practitioners, which have included, massage therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and other therapists.  I have had the opportunity to offer my services to people from across Canada, and more recently, as part of a medical health mission, the people of El Salvador, which also included participating in gallbladder surgery.

My favorite quote is, “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson) While I was suffering from the challenges of healing my illness, I managed to become an English tutor, obtain over 30 certifications relating to lifesaving, aquatics, and fitness, which included receiving the Common Wealth Award of Thanks, which was presented to me by the lieutenant governor, Norman Quong, and begin some of my university studie. I have come to see and appreciate that challenges can truly be building blocks to a better and stronger character and that genius is simply 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.  Each of us has our own set of qualities, strengths and weaknesses, and although we will always find someone who can outdo us in our areas of strength, it is our specific qualities, strengths, and weaknesses that we each possess that creates in us our own symphony of uniqueness that no one can compete with!  It is my sincere hope that your journey of health and wellness, like me, may become for you a path of inspiration, not only for yourself, but for others as well so that we may all fully achieve our capabilities and potential.  By each of us fulfilling our life’s vocation to the utmost, we all will leave a great legacy behind to the world!

Sincerely,
Monique C. Bilodeau
